I have ADHD and its really difficult keeping a job or wanting a job because i get bored easily and other times i get confused easily. It makes ppl hard to get along with because when you tell them you have ADHD they assume that you are stupid or potentially violent.

@MrXSpeaks "To whiff1962: You for example have no capacity for empathy and a low IQ." This is obviously a vacuous statement which lacks empathy, but alas, those are two vices of most, if not all, criticism.
whiff1962 (8 months ago)
The notion that so many great minds were "stricken" with one form of mental disorder or another, is proof of how effective mental health propaganda has trickled down to the average person. BTW, Einstein's inattention to school work as a child might have been attributable to the boredom a child with a stellar IQ, no?
whiff1962 (8 months ago)
Another important difference, and one that is NEVER brought up by the do-gooder, left-leaning mental health professionals, is that children are forcibly poisoned, ostensibly to rectify a psychobiological defficiency. Adults, on the other hand, might indeed benefit from popping drugs daily and, morever, may consent to be drugged or not.
whiff1962 (8 months ago)
So, with the label, you have an excuse for what? A lacking of integrity and ambition? I was "diagnosed" with ADD, but still managed to complete my studies. I now hold three university degrees, and have successfully jettisoned any notion of my brain being diseased or disordered. Psych labels are not for life, except when such a label is taken on as an excuse for one's shortcomings. They (labels) are limiting, not expanding, of life possibilities. Sorry that you have not excised the tumorous label
whiff1962 (8 months ago)
As with just about any other psych label, your troubles started when you became conscious of your supposed "disorder". In fact, the negative feelings that arise should not be any surprise, given how deeply social a creature then human animal is. The latter is what occurs when mental illness/disorders stigmatize the one being labeled. Alas, as long as you uncritically accept your label, as one who "has" ADD, the doubts and torments will almost certainly continue. Labels harm, they never heal!

Girl, I have ADHD, I'm 35, and unfortunately I feel like my coworkers treat me like crap and make fun of me and it's ssooo frustrating!
MrXSpeaks (10 months ago)
well you keep coming back which only proves you are a sociopath, which I suspected earlier. Now we know about you. Keep it coming Ted Bundy.
whiff1962 (10 months ago)
Are we arguing about an so-called "debilitating" disorder being either scientifically verifiable or a medical fiction (albeit an important fiction for our cultural ills) , or, are we discussing empathy, as it relates to IQ? Now, your inability to carry on task with a conversation, shows you to conspicuously lack intelligence. Anyway, that must be your hot-headed, inattentive ADD.
whiff1962 (10 months ago)
Are we to see every negative affect, and even some positive (as in Bi-polar "ilness") as something worth treating at all costs? Anyway, this is not about people choosing to seek psyche help. It is about the Therapeutic state imposing its treatments on us. It is not you I care about. Take your labels you've been ascribed, live long and prosper.
MrXSpeaks (10 months ago)
there are many variations in human brain function. You for example have no capacity for empathy and a low IQ.
whiff1962 (10 months ago)
Wow, all these horrible life events, tremendous torture and depression! All this from inattention? Those must be the co-morbid symptoms, right? You obviously have coveted one view of ADD that is, I must say, quite gloom and doom, and oddly smacking of your own disappointments. This is more about reading tea leaves than science to me. What do you think, Einstein.
whiff1962 (10 months ago)
and drugs reduce the symptoms? Symptoms? Do you actually know of what you speak? The drugging of millions of U.S. children is not treating anything but the teachers and schools having to do the work that the family and our communities used to do. The shrink is the state's answer to social breakdown and the sickness within our own moral makeup, collectively speaking. You need to see most mental illnesses as less than disease states, and more as means of social control! Each state has its shrinks.
MrXSpeaks (10 months ago)
You have no knowlege on this subject whatsoever, and you are now dealing with someone who actually has it and is an adult who can tell you where to stick it. Go find some other disease sufferers to torture. Depression doesn't have a blood test either, go claim depression doesn't exist you scumbag
whiff1962 (10 months ago)
No, there is no diagnostic test whatsoever that shows ADD to be of physical origin, like, say, a heart attack, or stroke. The diagnosis is purely projective and socially defined (schools, employer, even family). Some five million children are on some form of ADD drug, I think the MH profession owes all of us some measure of apology...but don't hold your breath. You should read Thomas Szasz. Start with his "The myth of madness".
MrXSpeaks (10 months ago)
people who say it isn't real are ignorant, in denial, or just don't want other people to get treated. It is an absolutely real physical issue with the brain.
MrXSpeaks (10 months ago)
They can see differences on brain scans, and drugs reduce the symptoms. It is a real brain disorder, and if it isn't treated all kinds of psychological problems form on top of it and living as an adult can become truly nasty. At least go talk to an adult who has it before you form your opinion.
MrXSpeaks (10 months ago)
This is fine advice as long as you don't need to have a job or live independently. Just stay in your parents basement the rest of your life and don't date or have kids.
clip11 (10 months ago)
I have ADHD and it has made life difficult. Even my own family doesnt understand me or know what its like to have adhd.
Mordraneth (11 months ago)
and 3) No matter what people say, you are not damaged. Find new ways to do tasks. Find mental shortcuts and coping mechanisms that suit you and above all never, ever believe you are mentally challenged, no matter what they say. It is widely believed Einstein had ADHD and look what he accomplished.
Mordraneth (11 months ago)
2) Because you are different doctors, teachers and any one else in a position of power will do their utmost to control you, based on a misconception that you need fixing and must conform to what they deem is normal. Resist it. (cont'd)
Mordraneth (11 months ago)
I have been struggling with ADHD since I was 6 years old. I am now 34 and can tell you 3 things I have learned. 1) if you have ADHD chances are you are a genius. The problem is your mind work different then most peoples and that scares them. A quick thinking mind that easily bores from non-stimulation is not the sign of low intelligence. (cont'd)
whiff1962 (1 year ago)
Don't get down on yourself. You are just being labeled because certain people don't like how you might be acting. You have nothing wrong with you, and I hope you are not taking medicine, but are seeking other ways to do what you like to do, without being told you are "Different".
